About

sKINship™ is a research program and professional network promoting cross disciplinary collaborations between Visual Arts and Science based practitioners…The forum provides a space in which to exchange knowledge and ideas – exploring the processes of ‘Making’ as a universal visual language, to communicate and share. The creation of this platform creates an openness to collaborate to ensure that boundaries between disciplines can be challenged.

sKINship’s current research program looks to promote experimental collaborations between the disciplines of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery and Pattern Cutting for Fashion. By exploring points of commonality and contrast  between these subjects a unique dialogue  is being developed, informing new practices in the design and planning of surgical procedures and garments. Key collaborators in this project to date include Mrs Sarah Pape, Rhian Solomon, Juliana Sissons, Liz Ciokajlo, Manolis Papastavrou, The British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons and Henry Poole – Tailors of Savile Row..

Through this and future projects, sKINship™ aims to engage wider audiences across Science, Art and Design based practices.
